Anyone over the age of 14 can become a Lifeguard by completing the Surf Lifeguard Award. This award is your passport to the exciting world of Surf Lifesaving, lifeguarding and Senior level competition.
Once you have passed your Surf Lifeguard Award you are eligible to compete as a senior competitor should you choose to.
Senior competitive age groups are: Under 15, Under 17, Under 19 and Open for board, swim, ski, beach and canoe events;
Under 21, Women, Senior and Premier for IRB racing events and U21, U23 and Open for Surf Boat racing events.
All lifeguards are included in a Patrol Roster which sets out what Patrol you are in and when you can patrol the beach throughout the summer weekends and public holidays.
Some of you may wish to patrol but not compete in the Surf Sports events. This is absolutely fine and is extremely helpful when some patrol members are away competing regionally or nationally. They then rely on our non-competitors to fill the patrols.
